Traders’ and smallholder farmers’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards groundnut aflatoxin contamination in Central Malawi

First release: May 07, 2024

This study investigates the relationship between aflatoxin knowledge, aflatoxin minimising practices, and attitudes toward the safety of consuming aflatoxin-contaminated groundnuts among smallholder groundnut farmers and traders. The study has implications for the adoption of safe groundnut handling practices and food safety education across the various stages of the value chain, including pre-harvest, harvest, post-harvest, distribution, storage, and consumption.
