Malawi’s soybean sector has strong potential to become a major driver of agricultural commercialisation, with growing demand from the poultry, aquaculture, food-processing and export markets. Yet this potential remains constrained by low productivity, limited access to quality seed and inputs, weak aggregation and storage systems, and limited value addition. This policy brief demonstrates that the soybean value chain can be profitable and competitive for Malawi. Unlocking this potential, however, will require strategic investment in improved production practices, stronger seed systems, storage and aggregation, mechanisation, and value-added processing, alongside stronger market linkages that connect farmers to premium domestic and export markets.
